now, before you start lobbing accusations of "vanity" and "inane snobbery" and "finally" (i guess that last one wouldn't be an accusation...), allow me to say two words. these two words are so full of meaning that they will render your accusations helpless and will watch them wither on the sand dunes in the desert of reprimand:

deviated septum.

yes, friends, the ironic twist is upon us. nic, so well renowned for his prodigious nasal apparatus, so revered for his ability to draw small children and small vehicles into orbit around his gigantic face-lump, is being forced into surgery because his nasal passages (get this) are

TOO SMALL.

beyond comprehension, i know. i mean, with all the room for hair, and boogers, and snot, and other various items in the cavernous recesses nic calls his nostrils (such as bits of paper, speaker cables, volkswagens, etc.), you'd think they'd leave enough room for a little air. but no. everything else has a spot, but for air there's no room at the inn.

how thrilling.

[i'll keep you informed, with full pictorial coverage, as the events occur. thanks for reading the "lifeofnic" blog. if you are now thoroughly bored out of your mind (and goodness knows you should be), please visit my actually interesting blog, at curledupwithmyteddy. thank you and good night.]

Tuesday, August 03, 2004

i'm back in action. worldview kept me busy, even busier than last summer. i felt like an ostrich on steroids. except without the steroids. or, i suppose, the ostrich.

there is too much to post about the summer, so i'll have to do it in small bites. but i do plan on it.

when i got home, i hung out with the fam until 4:30 in the morning. the next day, we went and saw the bourne supremacy (a good movie), spiderman 2 (another good movie), and then came home and watched the last samurai (yet another good movie). then we went to bed. it was beautiful. what a great way to come down off the summer.

since then, i've been scripting. a lot. i hope to have it done before i leave for union again, which will be on the 19th...AAAGH! coming up fast.

until then, we shall camp this weekend, and my enemies shall be inflicted with the frothy disease.

and, i shall have an appointment for facial reconstruction surgery. it seems the face police have decided i have descended below the line of legalized ugliness. not to mention my nose is a fire hazard in most buildings. so reconstruct they shall.

Friday, April 30, 2004

FOR BORED PEOPLE ONLY!!!

wowza.

been so long.

not a lot has changed lately, but a lot has happened.

i'm still an RA, still in Macbeth, still leading i eta pi (bible study), still working with tumbling creek baptist as worship leader on wed. nights, and still trying to find a church.

Macbeth goes up next week. it's exciting! it'll be good. very good.

i changed my program. i'm no longer a bachelor of arts, instead i'm a bachelor of science degree-seeking student. same major (digital media studies), but i don't have to take spanish. sweet! and it's less hours.

my major is trotting along quite nicely. i'll be here another 5 semesters plus 1 to finish my second minor in LA!!! woohoo! the second minor is in film studies, in case you wondered.

next semester is shaping up to be hugely awesomely busy:

RA in Lee building
Arts and Entertainment editor on Cardinal and Cream staff (student paper)
Staff of "The Torch" (student literary magazine)
I Eta Pi facilitator (mens' bible study)
Rounder's leader (book discussion---"Orthodoxy" by Chesterton)
16 credit hours (Editing, Graphic Design, Advertising, Public Relations, P.E., and another class that i haven't signed up for yet)
Tumbling Creek Baptist wed. night worship leader (though i may possibly begin to do a "traveling" worship band with nick bateman)
More filmmaking.
More blogging.
More e-mailing.

yikes. i hope that's all. i don't think i'll be doing a play next semester, due to the ridiculous amount of stuff i'm already hoping to do.

so anyhoo. thanks for listening.

by the way, i made three films this semester. one was for class, with a group, and it's not that good. one was with my friend trae cadenhead, called "within a room somewhere" and is pretty good. it comes out on dvd next semester. and i made one of my own (starring wilhelm peters) called "shower story". it's mostly done. if you have a fast internet connection, check it out here. click the link at the top of the page. then right click the movie file and "save target as..." this will download it to your hard drive.

anywaysers. thanks for reading. i can't believe you read through all this. how insanely bored you must be.

Monday, March 01, 2004

RA duties are not overwhelming, but they keep me busy.

homework is not overwhelming (yet), but it keeps me busy.

my tuesday night bible study (called "i eta pi", in honor of fraternities) is not overwhelming, but it keeps me busy.

and now i'm in a show. macbeth. i think that it might be overwhelming. and it sure keeps me busy.

RECORDING NEWS!

last friday night, i went to memphis to my old roomate Tyson's house with him and my other old roomie Brandon to record. we all lived together in Rogers 81 last semester, so the name of our band is Rogers 81. we suck. but we recorded 23 songs that night for our 4th album in our trilogy, this one called "reUnion U". it's one of the funniest things i've ever had a part in.

but you probably wouldn't get it.

if you want a copy...too bad. it's not worth the postage.

HOWEVER. on saturday night i went to my professor's house to record an album of my own. this will be my...um...second official album (i think), and will be leagues ahead of anything else i've ever done. i've got the rough cuts of seven of the songs down, and some of it is just incredible! it even has other instruments, besides my guitar! i'm freekin excited! (i think i've had *that word* in every one of my posts on this blog so far. almost.)

the CD should be done by the 13th. i will be charging for copies (price yet to be set). the money will go toward my summer fund for working at Worldview Academy again. got A LOT of work to do...

but it'll keep me busy.

[proposed track list:

ironic comedy
good morning
someone to love me
and i break
jessica
down my neck
deep shade of blue
thickskinnedflutterhearted
love attempts a sigh]

Friday, February 06, 2004

ok...italy trip for two weeks in january. got six credit hours studying art history and world literature...

i decided Michelangelo invented Italy.

oversaturated with churches and chapels and duomos and basilicas and museums and little restaurants and glass and masks....shaved my head bald for the fun of it, in florence. yikes. hair's still pretty short.

got all my homework done the week following the trip and got two A's to show for it. so yay.

transitioned back to school again--it was a little tougher leaving this time than last time--and am FREEKIN excited about my semester:

i'm an RA--going well so far. learning "on the job". 7 hours a week, free room. not a bad deal.

wednesday night worship--i travel an hour to Gleason every wednesday to play music for the students at Tumbling Creek Baptist Church with my good friend Alex Carr. lovin' it, as usual.

tuesday night bible study--starting up a men's only bible study. something we lack on this campus. gearing up to begin next week, or perhaps the week following.

macbeth--planning on auditioning for the scottish play mid-semester. with a large number of men's roles, pretty good chance of getting to play. short hair (see "italy", above) might lower possibility.

classes--digital imaging (fun stuff), production (again, but still good), marketing (will probably be my first job--i love it!), biology (fulfills a requirement, but it's better than physical science), and written comp II (which is really a lit criticism course--sweet stuff). marketing ends halfway through the semester, since it's a night class.

so, i guess it's time to get back to bloggin and emailin. i'm gonna get consistent at this. or at least persistent.

Friday, December 26, 2003

great christmas.

i love it.

got some good stuff, especially a particular series of screenwriting books...i'm gonna be a filmmaker!!!

welps, i gots to go...vacation beckons heavily. see you all in a few!

excuse me. see ya'll in a few.

southerners. ugh.

Monday, December 22, 2003

mood // teetering on unfortunate
smiles // coming slowly

washed my dog today. never done that before. funny how she reacts to getting rid of all her dirt and junk the same way i do sometimes--rebelliously.

watched my friend william cox read lord of the rings on his webcam (www.robotgeeks.com/webcam.html). he's a geek. he's reading the whole thing in one sitting, starting at 2 o'clock today. he's still at it.

did some more homework for the italy trip. ugh. i hate homework. found out some interesting things about di medici, michelangelo, machiavelli, et cetera. i like learning. i guess the one only comes after the other. oh well.

if a man reading lotr in one sitting is a geek, what does that make a man watching the first man on a webcam? ooh, boy. hadn't thought of that.

tried to call some people and talk. most people weren't home. others didn't want to talk. i gave up.

hooray for my wonderful church! good music, good teaching. good content, good presentation. a rare find.

pretty soon i'm gonna figure out how to do this without rambling. that would be good.

currently watching: my good man william cox read LOTR

Sunday, December 21, 2003

christmas shoppings done. i got all of you home theater systems. i hope that's alright.

i helped my friends jeremy and melody move out of their house today, into another one accross town. kinda exciting and sad all at the same time. i dunno. moving can be a real pain sometimes.

saw "master and commander: the far side of the world"...no wonder it had such a long name. it was a freeking long movie! not as long as LOTR, i suppose. but still, it was good. themes: pride, duty, and facades. interesting that it's a peter weir movie. he likes stories about facades, seems like.

if you don't go see return of the king i will harm you bodily. or maybe not.

hung out with my brower friends tonight. i love them so very much! mr. brower especially. he's encouraged me in my relationship with God more than any man i have ever had the privelege to know. what a gift is he.

i smiled alot (excuse me, julie) a lot today. i like smiling. i could do it for hours. weeks, maybe.

a heartbreaking work of staggering genius. i like that title. i read the copyright information page of it today. it was freeking hilarious. notice how i like to use the word "freekin" all of the sudden? who knows where that came from.

gotta go floss.

Friday, December 19, 2003

home for the holidays.

lots of homework to do. cause i'm going to italy in january. i'll study history of art and history of ancient world literature.

italy. for two weeks.

WOOHOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

what a terrible first post.

here you will find updates on his life, actual events and people, funny stories, idiotic ramblings, basically all those things that nic hates to blog about but really wants you to know. this way, if you are interested in his life, you have a place to come and find out about it, and you won't be bothered by an e-mail in your inbox.
